Why do the colors vary between the same types of stones?

All stones are unique unto themselves. They have been in the earth for millions of years and have undergone and withstood all kinds of environmental and geological forces. The color variations stem from such things as radiation, tiny fluid bubbles (inclusions), and tiny amounts of trace metals and other elements and chemicals.
