The first thing you need to be aware of when beginning a practice of working with stones is that each stone carries its own metaphysical properties. They are formed by the efforts of the Earth and time. Gemstones emit powerful and unique energetic vibrations that impact how you feel, sense, and interact with your environment. You should select which stones to work with based on their individual properties, as well as which ones fit with your intentions. Visual attraction alone will not always get you the results you seek.
The most important concept behind choosing your stones is your intention, your purpose. You must honestly ask yourself what it is you seek from this work. Whether it is love, healing, financial abundance, protection, or letting go that you are searching for, there is a stone for every intention.
You can keep your stones in a circle around the base of your candles, or in a set near your bed, in your purse, or medicine bag. You can adorn yourself in crystal magic by wearing them as jewelry; our bodies are the greatest temple after all. For larger pieces, we recommend creating an altar or other sacred space. We also recommend meditating with your stones to feel their unique energies and receive their wisdom, anointing them with oil, or carrying them with you wherever you go as travel companions. The energetic properties of the stones will be working synergistically with your own vibration, and in time, you will find that you have developed your own unique relationships with your gemstone friends.
